Brain Injuries
San Francisco Brain Injury Lawyers are Here to Help
Brain injuries are the leading cause of disability and death in people ages 44 and under, according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS). These serious injuries can range from simple concussions to severe traumatic brain injuries (TBI).
Brain injuries are classified as mild, moderate or severe, depending on the level of neurological disruption or damage suffered by the brain. They can be closed-head or penetrating injuries. Closed-head injuries are often difficult to diagnose because the injured person may not lose consciousness and may not display symptoms until weeks after the accident. This is especially common with concussions/mild TBI.
Symptoms of brain injuries vary according to the severity of the injury, but may include:
- Memory loss
- Confusion
- Dizziness
- Headaches
- Exhaustion
- Mood swings
- Personality or behavioral changes
- Nausea or vomiting
- Trouble sleeping
- Blurry vision
- Difficulty speaking
- Loss of consciousness
In severe TBI cases, the victim may have seizures or slip into a vegetative state or coma. Wrongful death may also occur.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that falls are the leading cause of TBI. Vehicle accidents are the second most common cause. Additional causes include medical malpractice, falling objects, assault, and gunshot wounds
What Is Post-Concussive Syndrome?
Post-concussive syndrome is a form of mild traumatic brain injury that can persist for months after an impact to the head. Victims can suffer a variety of symptoms, including headaches, memory loss, impaired reasoning abilities and emotional problems. The older the victim, the more difficult it is to recover.
To obtain insurance compensation for post-concussive syndrome, it is necessary to show conclusive evidence of the injury. Computed tomography (CT) imaging is most often used to detect brain abnormalities, though it does not always accurately predict who does or does not exhibit symptoms of post-concussive syndrome.

We work with neuropsychologists and other medical experts to obtain medical evidence to support our clients' claims.
